Black Walnut Radio
Old songs. Strange stories. Ozark frequencies. A future podcast and audio archive for field recordings, performances, interviews, oral history, and narrated folklore.
What this section becomes
Black Walnut Radio is the audio wing of The Crooked Tune rather than a separate brand competing for attention. The visual system changes frequency — signal black, walnut brown, dial amber, phosphor green — while the editorial standards remain the same.
Program families
Transmissions are reported audio essays and interviews. Airchecks present archival recordings with context. Black Walnut Sessions feature contemporary traditional musicians. Night Signal handles supernatural belief, legend, and the uncanny.
The rule
The radio metaphor creates atmosphere, but it never blurs documentary and fictional material. If a sound is recreated, dramatized, or fictionalized, the listener should know.
The Devil at the Dance
A proposed first episode tracing supernatural strangers through dance halls, fiddle contests, and oral tradition.
Three “Pretty Polly” Airchecks
A listening-first comparison of three performances of the same traditional ballad.
